Filmdom's Bruce Willis and Cicely Tyson and hip-hop's Ja Rule toasted the arrival of Def Poetry Jam on Broadway at the Nov. 14 opening night performance at the Longacre Theatre.

The unique theatrical offering, a first for slam-style poetry on the Great White Way, features an award-winning nine-member troupe versifying issues of culture, stereotyping, love, death, food, music and the future between hip-hop, rap, jazz and rock 'n' roll tracks spun by a live DJ. Russell Simmon's Def Poetry Jam, originally an HBO series, plays the Longacre Theatre under the direction of Stan Lanthan.
