Among the April 4 opening night guests at The Graduate were Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell with his actress wife, Alyson and filmdom's Amy Irving ("Yentl," "Traffic").

The Graduate is written by Terry Johnson, adapted from the original novel by Charles Webb and the motion picture screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry. Audiences will recognize several scenes taken virtually verbatim from the film script. However, there are also a few sequences which were not in the movie at all, including various exchanges between Benjamin and his parents and, significantly, a scene in which Elaine and her mother get falling down drunk. Johnson also directs the comedy, which features Kathleen Turner as Mrs. Robinson, Jason Biggs as Benjamin and Alicia Silverstone as Elaine.
