News PHOTO CALL: Father Meets Son as Van Peebles' Ain't Supposed to Die... Gets Off-Broadway Revival The little-known but critically lauded 1971 musical Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, by Melvin Van Peebles, is currently receiving a revival at the Classical Theatre of Harlem. On Nov. 20, film star and son of the author, Mario Van Peebles, took in the production.

Melvin Van Peebles is best known for his direction of such films as "Watermelon Man" and "Sweet Sweetback's Baad Asssss Song", while his son Mario, has appeared in numerous titles, including "New Jack City" and "Ali". Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death was nominated for 7 Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway 23 years ago. The new production was scheduled to close on Oct. 31, but was extended to Nov. 21 after positive responses.
