News PHOTO CALL: Feisty Critic John Simon Joins Friends to Celebrate Release of His Compiled Writings John Simon, the much jawed-at theatre critic who recently took up residence at Bloomberg.com after decades at New York Magazine, was joined by several friendly theatre personalities for the launch of his book “John Simon on Theater, Film and Music” on Sept. 20.

For years Simon has been one of the more polarizing figures in New York theatre. His often scathing and unflinching reviews have drawn the ire of many of a performer throughout the years. Not all have been permanently hurt though, as a few of Broadway’s biggest names turned out to help Simon celebrate the release of the book. At left, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star Philip Bosco and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels director Jack O’Brien are seen mingling with the crowd.
