Stella (Essie Davis) and Blanche (Glenn Close) are two sisters who come into conflict over Stella's husband, the brutish and sexual Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire, set to open at London's National Theatre Oct. 8

Tennesee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire dramatizes a to-the-death conflict between the fragile world of false gentility and manners as embodied by the mentally unstable faded Southern belle Blanche (Close), and the practical but brutishly crude world personified by the primitive, animalistic Stanley (Iain Glen). Streetcar plays through Nov. 23 at the National Theatre.
