News PHOTO CALL: Gypsy of the Year with a West Side Flair The 2007 Gypsy of the Year Competition, which celebrates the ensemble singers and dancers of Broadway, was held Dec. 17 and 18 at the New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd Street.

This year, the event honored the 50th anniversary of the original Broadway production of West Side Story. Jackie Hoffman, Bob Saget and Mary Testa were on hand to host the production, which raised a record $3,927,110 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The Color Purple was awarded the prize for Best Skit, while the national touring company of Jersey Boys raised the most money for the charity.
