Jordin Sparks, the 2007 winner of TV's "American Idol," stepped into another American success story on Aug. 19 when she joined the Broadway cast of In the Heights, the Tony Award winner about the Latino neighborhood of Manhattan's Washington Heights.

Sparks makes her Broadway debut in the role of college student Nina Rosario, and will play the limited 12-week engagement through Nov. 14.

Also on Aug. 19, Kyle Beltran (10 Things To Do Before I Die at Second Stage) joined the cast as Usnavi after playing the role across the country in the national tour of In the Heights.

With a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and conceived by composer-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights is directed by Thomas Kail (who will stage the upcoming Broadway play Lombardi).

In the Heights continues at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The cast includes Marcy Harriell as Vanessa, Priscilla Lopez as Camila, Bianca Marroquin as Daniela, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Rick Négron as Kevin, Clifton Oliver as Benny, Courtney Reed as Carla, Jon Rua as Graffiti Pete and Shaun Taylor-Corbett as Sonny with Tony Chiroldes, Sharona D'Ornellas, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, Marcus Paul James, Jennifer Locke, Doreen Montalvo, Noah Rivera, Eliseo Román, Gabrielle Ruiz, Marcos Santana, Rickey Tripp, Willis White, Michael Balderrama, Blanca Camacho, Allison Thomas Lee, Alejandra Reyes, Nancy Ticotin and Daniel J. Watts.

In the Heights, according to the producers, "tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood — a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind."
