News PHOTO CALL: Kathryn Hunter, Tina Benko and Max Casella Star in Julie Taymor-Directed Midsummer Night's Dream Preview performances for Theatre for a New Audience's production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream began Oct. 19.

Directed by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor, the production marks the inauguration of TFNA's newly named building, the Polonsky Shakespeare Center.

The production officially opens Nov. 2 and continues through Jan. 12, 2014.

A Midsummer Night's Dream features Tina Benko as Titania, Max Casella as Bottom, David Harewood as Oberon and Kathryn Hunter as Puck.

The cast also includes Zach Appelman, Brendan Averett, Olivia Bak, Marcus Bellamy, Ciaran Bowling, Jarrett Austin Brown, Roger Clark, Jon Viktor Corpuz, Christina Dimanche, Lilly Englert, Jake L. Faragalli, Jaryd Farcon, Joe Grifasi, Jake Horowitz, Zachary Infante, Reimi Kaneko, Robert Langdon Lloyd, Sophia Lillis, Johnny Marx, Mandi Masden, Jacob Ming-Trent, Okwui Okpokwasili, Isaiah Register, Briana Robinson, Willa Scolari, Sophie Shapiro, Alex Shimizu, Emmet Smith, Madison Smith, Azalea Twining, Cassidy vanVonno and William Youmans. "Julie Taymor is internationally recognized for her bold and original creations," press notes state. "For this inaugural production, she stages Shakespeare’s joyous comedy about love and its complications in the mortal and spirit worlds incorporating a fantasia of light and shadow."

The production features original music by Academy Award and Golden Globe winner and Pulitzer Prize nominee Elliot Goldenthal.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is the fifth production Taymor has directed for Theatre for a New Audience. The recipient of the 1991 MacArthur Genius Fellowship, Taymor made her Broadway debut with Juan Darién: A Carnival Mass, which earned five Tony nominations. Her theatre credits also include The Green Bird, Titus Andronicus, The Tempest, The Taming of the Shrew, The Transposed Heads and Liberty's Taken. In 1997 Taymor directed the stage adaptation of Disney's animated film "The Lion King" and won the Tony Award for Best Costumes and Best Direction of a Musical.

The creative team includes Es Devlin (scenic design), Constance Hoffman (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Matt Tierney (sound design), Sven Ortel (projection design), Brian Brooks (choreography) and AiRealistic (aerial design and flight). Andrew Wade is the voice director, Bettie O. Rogers is the hair and wig designer, Andrew Sotomayor is the make-up designer, and Daniel Wurtzel is the fabric and fans artist.
