At left, choreographer Gillian Lynne staged Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats with diva Betty Buckley and both attended Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar opening April 16. At right, legendary TV anchorman Walter Cronkite and his wife Betsy. Superstar, the musicalized story of Jesus Christ from Palm Sunday through the crucifixion, made its world premiere on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Oct. 12, 1971 where it ran for 720 performances. This revival, based on Gale Edwards' Newcastle, England and subsequent West End stagings, runs at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts with Glenn Carter, Tony Vincent and Maya Days as Jesus, Judas and Mary Magdalene.
