Karen Mason, Louise Pitre and Judy Kate are the three ladies, whose friendship forms much of the comedy in the new musical comedy, Mamma Mia!, which opened on Broadway Oct. 18.
Using the songs of Swedish supergroup ABBA as the musical comedies' score, Mamma Mia! features original Toronto stars, Louise Pitre as Donna and Tina Maddigan as her daughter Sophie. The latter sets in motion the plot by inviting her three possible dads (David Keeley as the architect Sam, Dean Nolen as the adventurous American journalist Harry and Ken Marks as the proper Englishman Bill) to her Greek island wedding. A hit in London, Toronto and Melbourne, Mamma Mia! plays on Broadway at the newly renovated Winter Garden Theatre, the former home of Cats.
