News PHOTO CALL: Matthew Warchus-Directed Matilda at London's Royal Shakespeare Company Matilda, a new musical based on the 1988 novel by Roald Dahl, opened in a world-premiere Royal Shakespeare Company production at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon Dec. 9.

Matilda tells the story of a little girl with extraordinary powers. The three schoolgirls who alternate in the title role are Adrianna Bertola (age 11), Josie Griffiths (age 10) and Kerry Ingram (age 11). They are joined by Lauren Ward as Miss Honey, Bertie Carvel as the headmistress Miss Trunchbull, Paul Kaye and Josie Walker as Matilda's parents Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood and Peter Howe as Matlida's brother Michael.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, it has a book by playwright and screenwriter Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Australian stand-up comic, musician and composer Tim Minchin.
