The new musical — transferring from Off-Broadway's Public Theatre — features book and lyrics by Stew and music by Stew and Heidi Rodewald. The production is directed by and created in collaboration with Annie Dorsen.
"From Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Berlin and Back," begins show notes, "Passing Strange is the story of a young black bohemian, who abandons his bourgeois roots to journey to Europe searching for 'the real.' Discovering a world of sex, drugs, rock and roll and art revolutionaries, our rebel-hero explores love, identity and the meaning of home."
The original cast moves with the show to Broadway: de'Adre Aziza, Daniel Breaker, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, Chad Goodridge, Rebecca Naomi Jones and Stew himself.
