News PHOTO CALL: New Musical The Golem of Havana, With Two-Show Extension, Plays La MaMa La Mama E.T.C. presents the musical The Golem of Havana, a production of Columbia Stages, Palo de Agua and Theater of the Americas, at its downtown home on East 4th Street. Following a sold-out initial run, two performances have been added at 8 PM Sept. 9 and 10.

The show, "tells the story of a Hungarian-Jewish family living in Batista's Havana on the brink of the Cuban Revolution. When their maid's son, a guerrilla fighter, is injured, they must choose between protecting him and guarding their fragile prosperity since emigrating to Cuba after World War II. The Golem of Havana weaves together the music and traditions of two worlds, asking questions about family, community, religion and politics."

Michel Hausmann wrote the book and directs the production, which features music by Salomon Lerner and lyrics by Len Schiff.

The company includes Eva Amessé, Rheaume Crenshaw, José Miguel Dao, Felipe Gorostiza, Sandor Juan, Patrick Kerr, Ronald Peet, Alfonso Rey, Yelena Shmulenson and Liba Vaynberg.

The production team includes Edwin Erminy (scenic design), Christopher Vergara (costume design), Yuki Nakase (lighting design), Andy Cohen & Yair Szarf (sound design), Manuel González Ruiz (graphic design), Jeremy Stoller (general manager) and Yair Rosemberg (executive producer).
