David Shire and Richard Maltby joined Callaway and Graff and other original cast members for a discussion following the performance.

In Baby, according to Transport Group, "three couples, each newly expecting a child, have different but familiar reactions to the life-changing news of pregnancy. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show they experience the emotional stresses and triumphs— the desperate lows and the comic highs—that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby." Baby, with a score by Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire and a book by Sybile Pearson, played Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Nov. 8, 1983-July 1, 1984. The original cast boasted Liz Callaway, Todd Graff, James Congdon, Martin Vidnovic, Beth Fowler and Catherine Cox. The Maltby/Shire score includes such tunes as "At Night She Comes Home to Me," "I Chose Right," "The Story Goes On," "Easier to Love," "Two People in Love," "With You," "I Want It All" and "And What If We Had Loved Like That."
