Rent's Daphne Rubin-Vega, Aida's Tim Hunter and Saturday Night Fever's Orfeh were among the party-goers celebrating Jesus Christ Superstar's opening night April 16. Superstar, the musicalized story of Jesus Christ from Palm Sunday through the crucifixion, made its world premiere on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Oct. 12, 1971 where it ran for 720 performances. This revival, based on Gale Edwards' Newcastle, England, and subsequent West End stagings, runs at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts with Glenn Carter, Tony Vincent and Maya Days as Jesus, Judas and Mary Magdalene.
