Proof's Mary Louise Parker won an Obie for the Off-Broadway run of the Pulitzer Prize-winning David Auburn play. With her is beau Billy Crudup, most recently on screen in "Almost Famous" and set to star in the Public Theatre's summer staging of Measure for Measure. Other Obie winners, chosen by the Villiage Voice critics and a few select theatrical personas (composer Jeanine Tesori, playwright Doug Wright), include Brian Murray (The Play About the Baby), Pamela Isaacs (Newyorkers), Ed Kleban (A Class Act), Jose Rivera for References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, Greg Kotis and Mark Hollman for Urinetown and Rinde Eckert for And God Created Great Whales. Pamela Gien's The Syringa Tree won Best Play and Marian Seldes was given the Sustained Excellence citation.
