While plays don't get to perform at Stars in the Alley, cast members often introduce musical numbers or talk about their Broadway experiences. Tony nominees Michael Hayden, Robert Sean Leonard and Richard Easton and Michele Lee represented their plays - Judgement at Nuremberg, The Invention of Love and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife.

"Stars in the Alley," presented by Continental Airlines and The Chase Manhattan Bank, is a production of The League of American Theatres and Producers. The annual event features music and dance numbers from currently running shows in a free concert held in Broadway's Shubert Alley. Among this year's performers and presenters were Reba McEntire, Dick Cavett, Heather Headley, Ben Vereen, Gina Gershon, Henry Winkler, John Ritter, James Barbour, Deborah Yates, Boyd Gaines, Blast! and Tony nominees Marla Schaffel, Patrick Wilson, John Ellison Conlee, Robert Sean Leonard, Richard Easton, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Gary Beach, Cady Huffman and Christine Ebersole.
