News PHOTO CALL: Tony Nominees Come Out in Full Force to Begin Award Campaigns The day after the Tony Award nominations were announced, those honored with nods gathered high atop the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan to meet the press and begin the month-long countdown to the awards ceremony on June 11.

Generally regarded as the highpoint of the Broadway theatre season, the annual Tony Awards were first handed out at the famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 1947. Since that time the nominations and awards themselves have come to represent not only a recognition of theatrical achievement, but of box office success.
