Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Mazeppa at the Met The Metropolitan Opera performed Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa for the first time last night, debuting a new production directed by Yuri Alexandrov.
Valery Gergiev, the Met's principal guest conductor and the artistic director of the Mariinsky Theatre, is the conductor.

The cast includes Nikolai Putilin as Mazeppa. Olga Guryakova as Maria, Larissa Diadkova as Lyubov, Oleg Balashov as Andrei, and Paata Burchuladze as Kotschubey.

Sets are by George Tsypin, costumes by Tatiana Noginova, and lighting by Gleb Filshtinsky.

The production runs through March 30.
