Classic Arts News Photo Journal: The New York Philharmonic Looks Ahead The New York Philharmonic announced its 2005-06 season at a press conference on January 26.
Chairman Paul Guenther, music director Lorin Maazel, and president Zarin Mehta introduced the orchestra's plans and remarked on the season in progress before an audience of reporters and music industry leaders.

Also in attendance were composer Elliott Carter, several of whose works are on the Philharmonic's schedule next season, and musicologist, composer, and radio personality Peter Schickele, who will host a new concert series that combines the performance of an important work with an audience discussion.
