News PHOTO RECALL: The Grand Spectacle of It All As Hollywood extends itself ever further in search of visual spectacles that will reign in audiences, so too goes the trend on Broadway, if 2005 is any indication.

Before the production was even confirmed for Broadway, people were all ready talking about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s flying car from it’s West End incarnation. When it arrived stateside, the single-most expensive prop ever built for the stage did not disappoint as it wowed audiences during its nightly flight over their heads. Perhaps it is something to be said about the show itself that many theatregoers at Joe Brooks’ musical In My Life talked only about the giant lemon seen onstage. With the tagline “When life gives you lemons…”, the creative team seemed to take the idea quite literally.
