Classic Arts News Pianist Takahiro Sonoda Dies Japanese pianist Takahiro Sonoda died yesterday in Tokyo, Tokyo's Kyodo News reports. He was 76.
Sonoda began playing the piano at an early age, taking lessons first with his father, and later with pianist Leo Shirota.

After graduting from the Tokyo Music School‹the precursor to the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music‹Sonoda performed with Japan's NHK Symphony Orchestra. He debuted as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1955, and went on to perform with the Vienna Philharmonic and Staatskapelle Dresden, among other orchestras.
