Daniel Gidron directs the comedy penned by Steve Martin that will run April 19-May 10, 2009. Scenic design for the production is by Christina Todesco.

Picasso concerns a chance encounter between Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a French café at the turn of the century. The men engage in a debate about the true nature of genius, when both attempt to pick up the same woman.

Picasso replaces the previously announced production of Chekhov's Three Sisters. The New Repertory Theatre is currently in search of a new artistic director. Rick Lombardo, producing artistic director for New Rep, will be leaving his post to become the artistic director of San Jose Rep following the conclusion of the 25th season at the Watertown, MA, theatre.

Additionally, Picasso at the Lapin Agile celebrates the greatest artists and thinkers of their generation. With the challenging political and economic environment we are facing, it is timely for us to focus on progressive thinkers and innovators."
