Classic Arts Features Piotr Beczala to Sing Edgardo at Feb. 7 Lucia Matinee and Met: Live in HD Broadcast Piotr Beczala will sing Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor on Feb. 7, replacing Rolando Villaz‹n who is ill. The 1 PM performance will be transmitted worldwide as part of The Met: Live in HD series.


Mr. Beczala sang the role of Edgardo opposite Diana Damrau this past October at the Met to both public and critical acclaim. He is currently singing Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Met, with remaining performances on Feb. 5, 9, 14 matinee, 18, and 21 evening.

Giuseppe Filianoti, who replaced Mr. Villaz‹n last evening, will have performed back-to-back principle roles when he sings the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto tonight.

Anna Netrebko sings the role of Lucia, with Mariusz Kwiecien as Enrico, Ildar Abdrazakov as Raimondo, and Marco Armiliato conducting.
