News Playbill Goes Backstage With Motown Star Bryan Terrell Clark (Video) Bryan Terrell Clark — who plays legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye — took video camera in hand and led Playbill on a backstage tour of the Broadway hit Motown.

Motown The Musical tells the true story of the iconic Detroit-based record company that defined pop and soul music in the 1960s and 70s. With a book by founder Berry Gordy, the musical features some of the biggest hits of all time made famous by artists like Diana Ross and The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and The Jackson 5.

View all three parts below:

In Part One of this three-part video series, Clark explores the dressing rooms of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and comes upon cast mates preparing for the day’s performance. Mid-show, Clark dons the wig, facial hair and costume needed to propel his Marvin Gaye character from the 1960s into the 1970s.

In Part Two, Clark is joined by Tony nominee Valisia LeKae (who plays diva Diana Ross), Charl Brown (who plays smooth-crooning Smokey Robinson) and the Motown gang as they hit the studio to perform (and do plenty of media!) for the original cast recording of the show.

Part Three has Clark, Brown and Dominic Nolfi enjoying lunch at the legendary Sardi’s Restaurant on a two-show day, as well as purchasing a special birthday gift (Is it bourbon? Is it whiskey? What is it?) for their favorite hair and wig person.
