Playbill.com polled our readers via Facebook and Twitter asking them to share their favorite Sondheim tunes and tell us why they made their list.

Here are some reader responses and video.

Jenn Novak: Too many! Although "Being Alive" is just so wrought with emotion, that's probably my favorite. And anything from Follies.
R J Equality Lowe: Just one?!?! Oy! My gut instinct says "Being Alive." It is the perfect character transition song. It starts off with Bobby describing and judging what he thinks marriage is and then halfway through softly transitions into him realizing that he is not only finally ready for but desperately WANTS what he's been running from for so long. Add to that that it has one of the most powerful musically dramatic builds and it becomes a true joy to both hear and perform!
Laura Beth Dailey: "Being Alive" ~ It gets to the heart of life, the desire to love and be loved in return.
@PaolaMF11: "Being Alive." It's so powerful.
@TarrynNSteyn: "Being Alive" the lyrics speak for themselves! Also "No one is alone"
@landon_popadic: "Being Alive" from company b/c it's a song that your audience can connect to and relate to:) It's a perfect finally to the show!!!
Deb Lydon: "Being Alive" I quote lines as to how I feel when I going thru treatment. Throws people off every time and makes me so happy!
@timegoesby57: "Being Alive." It was my first, and you always remember your first.

Jen Lau: While it's hard just to pick one (they're all equally brilliant), I must say "No One Is Alone" is among my favorites, along with "With So Little To Be Sure Of" and "The Road You Didn't Take"
Jordan Jacobs: "No One is Alone" is really the greatest song of optimism. In dark times, there's always someone there for you. It's a beautiful message!
Hunter Emmett Burke: My absolute favorite by Sondheim is "No One Is Alone." Into the Woods was the first Sondheim show I ever performed in and every night, that song struck a chord with me that none of his other songs had done before. It was like a fresh experience every night.
Amy Boehly: "No One is Alone" from Into the Woods because it really speaks to everyone in some way.
Margaret Daisy Rose: lyrically, "Somewhere" from West Side Story. But overall it would have to be either "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd or "No One Is Alone" from Into the Woods. But really all of his songs are epic so they is no real way to pick one.

Lindsay Roland: "A Little Priest" because it's... Punderful.
Kelley Squires: "A Little Priest"...just plain genius!!
Stephanie Dykes: "A Little Priest" because I use it to make my partner crazy. We have a life long battle of word play. I'm pretty sure I'm winning.
James Greenhill: "A Little Priest"

Jade Kops: "Losing my Mind" - Follies. The lost love that never quite leave you and haunt all other relationships. The constant reminders in the simple things. The knowing you need to let go, and not wanting to all at the same time.
Alexander Jay Alvarez: "Losing my Mind"...
Gaspar Marino: "Losing My Mind" from Follies.
Philip Swan: "Losing My Mind."
Christina Ralph: How can I choose just one? The man is a musical genius! "Stay With Me" (Into the Woods), "No One Is Alone" (Into the Woods), "Losing My Mind" (Follies), "Loving You" (Passion), "More" (Dick Tracy movie), "I Never Do Anything Twice" (7% Solution movie).....etc. I love all of these songs because each and every Sondheim song is like an onion....every song has many layers, and as you peel each away, you discover new things "that you never knew before". Each of his songs tells a captivating story, that keeps you entranced throughout its duration.
Liz Chadwick: "Losing my mind."

Chris Baldock: "Our Time." And every song from Merrily. Perfection.
Victoria Elizabeth Roberts: "Our Time" from Merrily but really everything!!!! How lucky for us that we live in Sondheim's time....
@linaren: "Our Time" from Merrily we Roll Along, because art imitates life imitates art.
@macditty: "Our Time" - chills every time. Music and lyrics so palpable. Makes me want to get up and do something!

Garrett Canna: "Johanna (Quartet)" from Sweeney Todd. Seamless blending of melodic lines, all while pushing the various characters further down their respective paths - Sweeney toward self-destruction and death, Johanna and Antony toward each other, and getting the beggar woman even more tangled in Mrs. Lovett's deadly web.
Margaret Daisy Rose: lyrically, "Somewhere" from West Side Story. But overall it would have to be either "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd or "No One Is Alone" from Into the Woods. But really all of his songs are epic so they is no real way to pick one.
Stella Grimaldi: This is a hard one.. Either "No One Is Alone" from Into the Woods or "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd
@mateolewis: "Johanna" is my fav Sondheim song, because I'm playing Anthony in a production of Sweeney Todd this December! :D

Eric Michaud :"Move On" - what better song for an artist finding his or her way?
Bryan Greeley: "Finishing the Hat." And "Move On"
Kit Lo: "Take Me to the World" (Evening Primrose), "Too Many Mornings" (Follies), "Finishing the Hat" and "Move On" (Sunday)
Michelle Nigro: "Move On" from Sunday in the Park with George. The lyrics are just so moving and inspirational. Anytime I hear it sung, especially by Mandy Pantikin and Bernadette Peters, I get the chills.
@Chip_Garrison: Favorite Sondheim song? "Move On" from Sunday in the Park...

Helen Volhontseff: "Not While I'm Around" is a favorite, but there are many others. I sing it (badly) to my husband.
Alexander Jay Alvarez: And......"Not While I'm Around"
Adele Winston: Nothing's gonna hurt you, not while I'm around - sung of course by Angela Lansbury

@Jamessss1993: "Send in the Clowns." Arguably become his most famous. SO easily relatable.
@faviv: "Send in the clowns." Too classic???
Lauren Ortiz: "Send in the clowns"/"the Miller's son"
Elliot Lane: So many good ones....but "send in the clowns" is just so beautiful.
Justin Mink: "Send In The Clowns"
Patricia Howe Tilton: Too many favorites: "Somewhere" "Send in the Clowns" "By the Sea"
Andrea Mays: "Send in the clowns."

@BPetersFans: wow so many to choose from:"Sunday" and "Children will listen"
Lyndsay Wilshaw: "Being Alive," "Children Will Listen," ah I just love all of his stuff!
Joe Dahlem: "Children will listen"
Nathan Hinds: I always felt that the intervals in "Children Will Listen" were both beautiful and unique. The song fits beautifully in the show but can stand alone as well.
Rhonda Yeager-Hutchinson: "Children Will Listen"
@chekovscurls: the entire Into the Woods soundtrack - it introduced me to theatre
