Special Features Playbill Store Now Boasts Over 1,400 Items When the Playbill Store, located at playbillstore.com launched in September 2000, what is now a virtual department store for Broadway-themed gifts and collectibles included just over two-dozen Playbill products — and no Broadway show merchandise. Today, the Store, which is run by Playbill's Director of Merchandising, Bruce Stapleton, features more than 1,400 items.

Stapleton recently spoke with Playbill.com about the relaunch of the Playbill Store, which was completely redesigned this past summer.

Stapleton says that new items are constantly added to the storefront at a rapid pace. "In the last six months," he explains, "we have added over 350 musicals, plays, operas and ballets on DVD. We've also added more than 300 Broadway piano/vocal selections, books, plays, and guides for actors. Last month we began offering more than 240 Broadway show posters. And just this month, we began selling the complete line of official Wicked merchandise and the entire catalog of CDs from Sh-K-Boom and Ghostlight Records. We are in negotiations with other distributors of Broadway and performing arts merchandise so that we can continue to expand the range of products available in the store."

The item most frequently purchased is, not too surprisingly, the Ultimate Playbill Binder. This upscale version of the Playbill Vinyl Binder offers archival-quality protection for theatregoers' valuable Playbill collections. Other top sellers include the Playbill Collector's Display Frame, subscriptions to Playbill Magazine, the "Playbill Broadway Yearbook" and Louis Botto's famed "At This Theatre" book.

When asked the advantages of purchasing items through the store, Stapleton explains that the Playbill Store is "the only place you'll find the entire line of Playbill gifts and collectibles, as well as a large range of Broadway and performing arts merchandise, all at reasonable prices. The store is well organized and easy to navigate, and the check-out process is simple and fast. We pride ourselves on our customer service, and resolve the rare problem with an order quickly and efficiently."

Stapleton also explains that the store is the perfect stop for the Broadway lover on one's holiday gift list. "This year," he says, "we've added a holiday gift ideas section to the store, where we've gathered together our top suggestions of holiday gifts and seasonal merchandise. The Playbill Classics 100 perecent Silk Scarf is a favorite of mine, and fans of Tony winner Betty Buckley will love the autographed vinyl LP version of her new album, 'Betty Buckley 1967' (the CD version is also available). The Wicked Glitter Globe Music Box is sure to delight fans wishing for a green Christmas, as will the Wicked Charm Bracelet." And, then, there is what Stapleton refers to as the "Mixed Nutcrackers on DVD": "From the zany Nuncrackers the Musical to the classic ABT production of The Nutcracker starring Mikhail Baryshnikov, we've got a Nutcracker suited for every taste," he says.

"And," Stapleton adds, "if you still aren't certain what gift the theatre lovers on your list would enjoy, PlaybillStore.com email gift certificates might just be the perfect solution."
