The 16-day festival will run through Aug. 28 in venues all over Lower Manhattan. The festival offers a variety of performances (on a widely scattered schedule) in theatre, dance, performance art, spoken word, puppetry, improv and multimedia.
Here, Playbill Video was able to catch a glimpse of the festival and preview performances from Winner Take All (A Rock Opera), The Mountain Song, Parker & Dizzy's Fabulous Journey to the End of the Rainbow, Hush The Musical, Yeast Nation, The Jersey Shoresical and The Legend of Julie Taymor, among others.
Playbill also chatted with the creators of Yeast Nation, Tony Award winners Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann, whose musical Urinetown premiered at the 1999 Fringe Festival prior to transferring to Off-Broadway and then Broadway in 2001. Kotis and Hollmann describe the new musical and how they came up with the idea for Yeast.
