Full given name: |
Born Martha Campbell Plimpton |
Hometown: | New York City |
Zodiac sign: | Scorpio |
Audition song: | "Out Here On My Own" from Fame. I used it once when I was 12 and got the gig. Still sing it sometimes. It's a great song. |
Special skills: | I can rewire a lamp in under five minutes. |
First Broadway show ever saw: | Hair. I saw it every single night for the first three years of my life. After that, I think it was Leaf People. Remember that show? OMG. |
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? | The original Sweeney Todd. I've seen the "Great Performances" version about 3,897 times, and it's by far my favorite musical of all time. I own the DVD, and my mother and I watch it every single year at Christmas. It's one of our holiday traditions, hilariously. |
Favorite showtune: | "Pretty Women" into "Epiphany" from Sweeney Todd and Bernadette Peters' version of "Everything's Coming Up Roses." I like madness in my showtunes. |
MAC or PC? | Oh, definitely Mac. |
Most played song on your iPod: | At the moment it's "Les Fleur" by Minnie Riperton with 74 plays. |
One CD you couldn't live without: | This week it became Wilco's "Sky Blue Sky." But there are too many. I'm musically greedy. |
Must-see TV show: | "The First 48" |
Last good movie you saw: | "Venus." It's been ages since I went to the movies, sadly. |
Favorite board/card game: | Scrabble |
Performer you would drop everything to go see: | Michael Gambon. |
Pop culture guilty pleasure: | "American Idol," of course. And "Judge Judy." |
First stage kiss: | I think it was Josh Hamilton, delightfully enough, in subUrbia. |
Favorite post-show meal: | At Angus [McIndoe Restaurant] after our first marathon of Utopia. That was one of the best meals of my life, for obvious reasons. I'll never forget that night. |
How you got your Equity card: | I think it was doing a workshop of Runaways at The Public in 1979. It was a looooooooong time ago. |
Worst flubbed line: | It was in The Haggadah when I was nine years old at The Public. I asked the fourth question of Passover four times in a row. I cried for the rest of the show. Hilarious. |
Who have you played on "Law & Order"? Which edition? | Yes! "SVU" and "CI." I got to work with Ice T in "SVU" and was nominated for an Emmy. I played a junkie; I play a lot of junkies on TV. On the other one I played a copycat serial killer. How fun is that? |
Worst costume ever: | The hideous 80's oversized sweatshirt, leggings and weird pink sneaker-boots I had to wear every single day for five months while filming "The Goonies." I wish I could've burned it when it was over. |
Favorite cereal: | Cheerios! with strawberries on top. |
Who would play you in the movie? | Can I do it? I could use the bread. |
Worst job you ever had: | Oh, let's not. I've been very fortunate, however, in that I can say I've never had to have a civilian gig in my life so far. For that I am immensely grateful. |
