News Playwright Kron Joins Benefit Reading of Marrying Wells for Southern Rep A reading of Dana Slamp's The Importance of Marrying Wells will be presented Oct. 24 at the Perry Street Theatre to benefit Southern Rep, a New Orleans-based professional theatre company whose season was postponed due to Hurricane Katrina.

The cast for the reading will include playwright Lisa Kron, "All My Children" star Michael Malone, The Underpants' Cheryl Lynn Bowers and The Graduate's Brian Russell as well as Peter Macklin, Tony Hagopian, Jere Williams and Celia Howard. The benefit is being presented by Slamponian Productions & Perry Street Theatre. The evening is set to begin with cocktails, live music by Jann Klose, hors d'oeuvres, a raffle and a silent auction at 6:30 PM. The reading will be held at 7:30 PM.

The Importance of Marrying Wells, according to press notes, concerns Gavin, "who is gay but pretends to be married, while Jake is rich but pretends to be poor. Can they get the girl and guy while keeping their identities secret?"
