Playwright Baker stated that she expected original Off-Broadway cast members Alex Hanna, Louisa Krause, Matthew Maher and Aaron Clifton Moten to return for the Barrow Street run.
The Barrow Street Theatre is currently home to Jonathan Tollins' hit comedy Buyer and Cellar, which is currently selling tickets through August.
Baker's study of boredom, yearning and dysfunction in a crew of New England movie-house workers was extended during its 2013 Off-Broadway world-premiere engagement at Playwrights Horizons. The Flick was directed by Sam Gold (Fun Home, Circle Mirror Transformation).
Baker's work is described as such: "In a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35 millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world." Baker's play inspired off stage drama last spring when Playwrights Horizons subscribers criticized the play's length, prompting the Off-Broadway company's artistic director Tim Sanford to respond.
Baker is also the playwright of Circle Mirror Transformation, Body Awareness, The Aliens and an adaptation of Uncle Vanya for Soho Rep.
