A new offering from the Actors Studio, the world premiere of Masks and Music, will be presented Nov. 4 under the artistic direction on Estelle Parsons. Running through Thanksgiving weekend, the play features nine actors who "bring to life Hieronymus Bosch's painting titled `Christ Carrying the Cross.'"
Directed by Denmark's Per Brahe, the production integrates the use of masks and movement -- with a Bali influence -- together with Western theatrical technique. Also in the mix is George Crumb's musical piece, "Black Angels." Composed as a "parable on our troubled world," the music comprises chants, shouts, gongs, maracas and crystal glasses.
Performances begin Nov. 4 and run Wed. - Sat. With Sun. matinees. Admission is free but reservations are required at (212) 757- 2467.
