News Press Fever Over Brits Hits Broadway

Having gone wild over the numerous American stars in the West End — from Gwyneth Paltrow in Proof to Matt Damon in This Is Our Youth — Fleet Street has now latched on to the fact that a lot of the shows and individual stars nominated for Broadway's Tony Awards in June are British.

The hottest ticket for Best Actor, for example, is Alan Bates for his performance as a Russian aristocrat in Fortune's Fool, though movie stars Alan Rickman (Private Lives) and Liam Neeson (The Crucible) are giving him a run for his money.

If many British stars or shows win Tonys on June 2 (the date the awards are announced), then expect a mass booking of plane tickets by journalists heading for interviews with the winners in New York.
