The previously announced Broadway bow for Suzie Miller's Prima Facie, starring Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), has set dates and a theatre, with previews beginning April 11, 2023, ahead of an April 23 opening night at the John Golden Theatre. The strictly limited engagement will play 10 weeks.
The theatre is currently home to Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog/Underdog, starring Corey Hawkins and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which is set to complete its run January 15.
Directed by Justin Martin, Prima Facie comes to Broadway following a sold-out summer engagement in London's West End. The work follows a young and brilliant barrister who is forced to explore how patriarchal power over the law, burden of proof, and morals diverge after an unexpected event.
The Broadway production will work with The Schools Consent Project, a U.K.-based charity that seeks to educate young people on issues surrounding consent and sexual assault. Prima Facie both raised funds for the organization and worked directly with school groups to encourage understanding and education during the work's West End run. The Broadway run will continue the partnership and extend the organization's reach to schools in the U.S.
The production will also launch the Prima Facie Pro Bono Project, offering a low-price ticket lottery and rush tickets at every performance, along with providing free ticket access to specific partner and community organizations.
Along with Martin's direction, the production features an original score by Rebecca Lucy Taylor (aka Self Esteem), scenic and costume design by Miriam Buether, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, and video by William Williams for Treatment Studio. The Broadway run will be general managed by 101 Productions Ltd. Prima Facie is produced by James Bierman's Empire Street Productions.
