Evan Cabnet will stage the New York premiere of Emmy nominee Rebeck's Poor Behavior in July-September 2014. The play had its premiere in 2011 at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum. According to Primary Stages, Rebeck ("Smash," Mauritius, Dead Accounts) presents a "devilish argument about infidelity and America in this new comedy about two couples spending a not-so-idyllic weekend in the country."
Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller will stage While I Yet Live, a new work by Tony-winning Kinky Boots star Porter beginning in September. Porter's play "explores coming of age in Pittsburgh amongst a bevy of fascinating and strong-willed women."
Primary Stages will continue its collaboration with award-winning playwright David Ives (Venus in Fur, All in the Timing) with his world-premiere play collection Lives of the Saints, which will run February-March 2015, under the direction of John Rando.
Primary Stages, which has been in residence at 59E59 Theaters for the past decade, will move to the heart of the theatre district for its 30th season when peformances of Poor Behavior begin at the Duke in July. The Off-Broadway company's current residency at 59E59 will conclude with the current Charles Busch premiere The Tribute Artist, which opens Feb. 9.
"We look forward to working with our colleagues at The Duke on 42nd Street, which offers us a terrific space for our artists and our audiences," said Primary Stages founder and executive producer, Casey Childs, in a statement. "We have been the resident theatre company at 59E59 Theaters since they opened in 2004, but over the course of the last decade the audiences and the seasons have grown tremendously for both Primary Stages and 59E59 Theaters, increasing both organizations' needs for access to the main stage."
