The series, which was inaugurated with a concert this past spring, is sponsored by the Gabe Wiener Foundation, an organization named for the late son of Infinity Broadcasting co-founder Michael Wiener. The foundation also helped to build an organ at the synagogue, and sponsors a free monthly lunchtime organ recital series, which continues on November 8 with a concert by Antonius Bittman.
Tomorrow's concert begins with Moravec's Cornopean Airs, a work for brass and organ commissioned in honor of Gabe Wiener, who founded the audiophile CD label Pro Gloria Musica and was a lover of organ music. The program also includes excerpts from Handel's Biblical oratorios Solomon, Esther, Belshazzar, Samson, and Judas Maccabeus.
On March 19, 2006, the Brentano String Quartet will perform in a program of music by Vienna composers Schubert, Brahms, Schoenberg, and Zemlinsky. The final concert of the season, titled "Spiritual Expatriates," includes music by Mendelssohn, Mahler, and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Voigt performs songs by Mahler, accompanied by pianist Brian Zeger, and joins the Festival Singers for Mendelssohn's choral work Hear My Prayer.
