News Privilege Playwright Weitz to Write and Direct for Columbia Pictures Paul Weitz, whose new play Privilege is currently in previews at Manhattan's Second Stage Theatre, has signed on to write and direct a film for Columbia Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Weitz will pen and helm the upcoming film "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City." The motion picture is based on Nick Flynn's novel and will be produced by Michael Costigan and Paul and Chris Weitz's Depth of Field. The film, according to the industry paper, is "a darkly comic memoir that centers on an unconventional relationship between a father and son. The story begins when the 27-year-old Flynn meets his father for the third time while working as a caseworker in a homeless shelter in Boston."

Weitz's other plays include Roulette, Mango Tea, Captive and All for One. He co-wrote the screenplays to "Antz," "Nutty Professor 2" and "About a Boy" with his brother Chris, who shared directing credit with him on the latter. Weitz also directed "American Pie" and his own screenplay for "In Good Company."
