Telsey + Co., which also cast NBC's live broadcast of The Sound of Music last season, will hold open calls for Native American actresses to portray the Neverland character, created on Broadway by Sondra Lee.
According to the casting notice, the creative team is seeking the following: "18-30, Native American. Strong dancer, singer, and actor." Read more about the Aug. 8 audition here.
Earlier this year an online petition circulated objecting to the casting of a Caucasian woman in the role of a Native American after Warner Brothers announced that Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Social Network") was cast to play Tiger Lily in the film "Pan," which also stars Hugh Jackman.
As previously reported, Tony nominee and Oscar winner Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook in the live television broadcast of Peter Pan. Casting for the role of Peter has not been announced.
