Prospect Theater Company and the recently launched Peter Foley Music Project will present a concert celebrating the late composer-lyricist 7:30 PM June 5 at Peter Norton Symphony Space.
Out of Myself—Songs of Peter Foley will star Tony nominee Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!), Pulitzer Prize finalist Eisa Davis (Passing Strange), Tony nominee Melissa Errico (Amour), Tony nominee Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd), and Jason Gotay (Bring It On: The Musical). Further soloists and ensemble singers will be announced at a later date.
The one-night-only concert will feature songs from The Hidden Sky, The Names We Gave Him, Bloom, Songs from an Unmade Bed, and more. Grammy and Emmy winner Rob Berman will serve as music supervisor.
Berman says in a statement, “For me, Peter’s music consistently hits the sweet spot of great intelligence without being overly cerebral, combined with deep emotion that avoids being overly sentimental. It is beautiful and challenging. His ear for inventive harmony and rhythm always surprises and his stylistic versatility all in the service of story and character is so impressive.”
The sentiment is echoed by Errico, who shares that the composer-lyricist "wrote music that is bound by good sense—foundation, logic, structure—but nothing is ordinary." Felciano adds, "You end up caught off-guard at how your head and your heart are moved in tandem."
Foley's works include The Hidden Sky, The Names We Gave Him, I Capture the Castle, Bloom, Whitechapel, and The Bear.
