The Provincetown Repertory Theatre will present three plays in their fifth season, including the world premiere play by macabre illustrator and author Edward Gorey , titled Goreyphobia, playing Aug. 17-Sept. 11.
Tony Award winning conductor & orchestrator Peter Matz will compose the music for Gorey, with Daniel Levans directing the collaboration. Gorey, dubbed with the moniker of "Master of the Macabre", is known for his drawing and illustrated tales of desolation, peopled with skeletons, devils and demons. Though having somewhat of a childish flair, the books tackle adult-themed subjects like death, loss and how creepy and disgusting infants can be. Books by Gorey include: "Amphigorey," "The Unstrung Harp," and "The Bug Book."
Before the summer gets "Gorey," The Provincetown Rep will kick off their season with Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful, playing June 15 - July 3. First produced on Broadway in 1953, Trip tells of the well meaning Mrs. Watts who lives with her son and daughter-in-law, and is on a quest to return to her hometown of Bountiful.
After Foote's trip, PRT will present an American classic, when its production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie plays July 13 - August 8.
