News PS Classics' Chaffin and Krasker Perform Songs from PS Classics Discs at NYC Tower Records July 27 Philip Chaffin and Tommy Krasker, co-founders of the Grammy-nominated record label PS Classics, will perform at the Tower Records at Lincoln Center in New York City 6 PM July 27, offering a taste of Chaffin's new solo album, "Warm Spring Night."

Chaffin will sing 30 minutes of selections from the new recording (and flirt with songs from other PS Classics discs). Krasker — a onetime Broadway rehearsal pianist — will accompany him at the piano.

"Warm Spring Night" represents "80 years of Broadway love songs, from Kern and Rodgers to Sondheim and Menken," and was released June 7 on PS Classics. The July 27 performance is part of the new "Any Wednesday at Tower" series, a co-production of Tower Records and Faust Harrison Pianos.

Krasker, a respected record producer of cast albums, solo CDs and songwriter/songbook discs for PS Classics, is himself a talented musician. He told Playbill.com, "Bart Greenberg, the product specialist for soundtrack and vocals at Tower Lincoln Center, asked Philip to appear, and Philip and I talked it over and decided it would be fun if I accompanied him. A decade ago, when Philip did a lot of cabaret and concerts in Los Angeles, I accompanied him all the time, but except for one number we did together — 'I Am Longing' on PS Classics' 'Maury Yeston Songbook,' I haven't played for him in about six years. But we used to have such a good time performing together, we thought, why not?"

Chaffin, A&R director of PS Classics, has appeared in New York City in both concerts (including several of the Encores! productions at City Center, as well as Lyrics and Lyricists at the 92nd Street Y and the Songwriter Series at Joe's Pub) and in theatrical evenings, including the Broadway premiere of Alan Menken and Tim Rice's King David, from which the new CD draws two of its songs, including the title track. Currently, Chaffin divides his time between performing and running PS Classics. Krasker, whose first New York credit was rehearsal pianist on the original Broadway production of Nine: The Musical, has received five Grammy nominations for his cast recordings, which include Titanic, Assassins and the New York Philharmonic's Sweeney Todd: Live in Concert. He began his producing career with the celebrated series of Gershwin recordings funded by Mrs. Ira Gershwin between 1990 to 1995. During that period, he also began an association with Nonesuch Records, producing solo albums for Dawn Upshaw and Audra McDonald, among others. He and Chaffin created PS Classics in late 2000 to continue preserving the heritage of Broadway through solo CDs, songbook series, and cast albums. Chaffin and Krasker have been partners for 12 years and share a home in Westchester County.
