News Pulitzer Prize-Winning Playwright Sam Shepard Arrested Sam Shepard, the actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, was arrested May 25 in Santa Fe, NM, under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to the Associated Press.

The stage and screen star told authorities that he had consumed two tequilas and was planning to drive to his home.

Shepard, who failed a field sobriety test, declined a breath test. After posting bail, he was released from a Santa Fe jail May 26.

Shepard was awarded the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Buried Child.
