Four contestants were eliminated during the live March 4 broadcast of the country's biggest singing competition. Hall is one of 16 who now advances to the next round. The singing actor once shared the Broadway stage with an "Idol" winner, Fantasia Barrino, who spent several months in The Color Purple.
Among the many "American Idol" finalists and/or winners who have appeared on Broadway are Diana DeGarmo (headed back to Broadway in Hair), Tamyra Gray, Constantine Maroulis (on Broadway in Rock of Ages), Frenchie Davis, Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks.
