Miami Beach Monsters by Helen Butleroff will get its debut at Queens Theatre in the Park, April 9 for a run through April 22. Originally, Monsters was set to haunt the American Jewish Theatre's 1998-99 season last fall. When AJT canceled their season, Butleroff went to Queens.
Butleroff's award winning off-Broadway play, That's Life, was produced in Queens in 1995 and was well received by theatregoers, leading to a lengthy off-off run a season ago. Queens' Producing Director Jeffrey Rosenstock said "we were honored she approached us to host the premiere of her newest show."
Miami Beach Monsters is the story of six old horror movie monsters who are enjoying their retirement in condos in Miami Beach. When a casting director calls, they all begin their big comebacks with musical revues and vaudeville acts. The cast has 43 combined Broadway credits and includes Steve Elmore, Robert Fitch, Laurie Gamache, Roumel Reaux, Nora Mae Lyng and Jimmy Spadola.
Tickets to Miami Beach Monsters are $12. For more information call (718) 760-0064.
