News Rabbit Hole Film, with Nicole Kidman, Set for December Release Rabbit Hole, the film version of David Lindsay-Abaire's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a family dealing with the death of their four-year-old son, will go into limited release Dec. 17, according to Variety.

The tense drama, which was recently purchased by Lionsgate after a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, will be released to additional theatres Christmas Day before an official wide release Jan. 14, 2011. Academy Award winners and stage veterans Nicole Kidman and Dianne Weist star in the film, which also features Aaron Eckhart, Tammy Blanchard and Sandra Oh. John Cameron Mitchell, of the stage and film versions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, directs.

Lindsay-Abaire also wrote the film's screenplay.

The play Rabbit Hole premiered in a Manhattan Theatre Club production Feb. 2, 2006, at the Biltmore Theatre. Cynthia Nixon won a Tony Award as the mother of the dead child. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, the production also starred John Slattery, Tyne Daly, Mary Catherine Garrison and John Gallagher, Jr.
