News Raisin's Harts Will Be Obama in Political Idol, Beginning July 23 A Raisin in the Sun's Frank Harts will join the cast of Political Idol when it returns to Off-Broadway's Triad Theatre July 23.

For the limited four-week Triad run of Political Idol, which spoofs the upcoming presidential elections and political figures with sketches and songs, Harts will portray characters including Barack Obama, Charlie Rangle and Condoleeza Rice.

Julie Blanciak directs a company that also features Lara Buck, Joseph DiSalle and Robert Yarnall.

Based on the parodies of Marc Emory, Political Idol's book and lyrics are co-authored by Robert Yarnall. The updated Idol depicts presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain auditioning potential vice presidential running mates, "while at the same time sparring with each other over the economy and foreign policy."

Chris Berg serves as musical director for the lyrically altered songs that include Obama singing "Change Is Cool" ("Chain of Fools") to McCain singing "John McCain" ("Purple Rain"), to Ricky Martin and Charro singing "Lovin' Barack Obama," sung to the tune of Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca."

Political Idol will play Sundays and Wednesdays through Aug 13. There is a $25 cover and $15 food/drink minimum. For tickets call (212) 352-3101. The Triad is located in Manhattan at 158 West 72nd Street.
