Also in the cast are Victor Slezak as psychiatrist Martin Dysart, Roberta Maxwell as Hester Salomon, Pamela Payton-Wright as Dora Strange, Tara Franklin as Jill Mason, John Curless and Frank Strange, Don Sparks as Harry Dalton and Jill Michael as the Nurse. Maxwell played the part of Jill Mason in the original 1974 Broadway production, which ran 1,209 regular performances. In that production, Peter Firth played Strange, the disturbed boy who blinds several horses for no apparent reasons, and Anthony Hopkins plays the doctor who tried to get at the core of his psychosis. Marian Seldes was Hester Salomon and Frances Sternhagen was Dora Strange.
Scott Schwartz, the director of Bat Boy and Golda's Balcony, who has made the BTF his summer home in recent years, returns to helm the play. Schwartz's 2002 BTF production of Larry Shue's The Foreigner was popular there. He later staged the play Off-Broadway for Roundabout Theatre.
The Main Stage season got underway June 21-July 9 with the popular Sondheim revue Side by Side by Sondheim, which starred Jessica Walter as The Narrator.
