Playwrights Horizons celebrated the official opening of Mankind January 8, a new play by playwright and director Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy, Barbecue) in which women have gone extinct from centuries of abuse. The play, billed as an “audacious, hilarious allegory,“ began performances Off-Broadway December 15, 2017.

The imaginative new satire is scheduled to run through January 28 in the company’s Mainstage Theater.

The cast is made up of two-time Tony Award nominee André De Shields, Bobby Moreno, Anson Mount, Stephen Schnetzer, Ariel Shafir, and David Ryan Smith. The story follows two men, played by Moreno and Mount, whose lives are irreversibly changed when one of them falls pregnant.
Mankind features scenic design by Tony Award winner Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede M. Ayite, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones, video design by Jeff Sugg, and hair, wig and makeup design by J. Jared Janas and Dave Bova. Production stage manager is Erin Gioia Albrecht.
