Classic Stage Company and Transport Group celebrated the official opening of their co-production of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke at CSC May 3.

The Off-Broadway revival began previews April 13, with a cast led by Tony nominee Marin Ireland (Reasons to Be Pretty) as Alma Winemiller, alongside House of Cards actor Nathan Darrow as Dr. John Buchanan, Jr.

Set in turn-of-the-century Mississippi, Summer and Smoke tells the story of a local minister’s daughter, Alma, and her relationship with the neighborhood doctor who grew up next door.

Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III directs a cast completed by Glenna Brucken as Rosemary, Phillip Clark as Dr. Buchanan, Sr., Hannah Elless as Nellie Ewell, Elena Hurst as Rosa Gonzales, Tina Johnson as Mrs. Bassett, Gerardo Rodriguez as Papa Gonzales, T. Ryder Smith as Reverend Winemiller, Ryan Spahn as Archie Kramer, Jonathan Spivey as Roger Doremus, and Barbara Walsh as Mrs. Winemiller.
