Directed by Anthony Pound with musical direction by Garrett Taylor, the cast includes Sara Jean Ford (Phantom of the Opera, A Little Night Music, Finian's Rainbow), Lauren Holmes (The Talls at Second Stage Theatre), Michael Thomas Holmes (Oklahoma!, The Producers), Susanne Layton, Paul Schaefer (Phantom of the Opera, Giant at Signature Theatre) and Jason Watson (national tours of Next to Normal, Mamma Mia!, Jekyll & Hyde). With music and lyrics by Elyssa Samsel and Jade Halley Bartlett and book by Jade Halley Bartlett, Ligeia, according to press notes, is a "combination of classically influenced music and a Victorian ghost story, conjuring a new genre in musical theater – the horror musical. Based upon a short story by the master of macabre himself, Edgar Allan Poe, Bartlett and Samsel took great care to maintain the integrity of his work, keeping the most important aspect of the story alive; its horror."
